One of my orchids grew an “offspring” on the stamp where flowers were. Should I cut it and plant it ? ?

I have an ocean side house where orchids thrive (CA). However I am not a skill orchid grower. Just want to give them what they need to reward me every year with the beautiful flowers.

don’t cut it quite yet. a lot of times, if you do, they won’t survive. i was always told that you have to wait till it’s really stemmed in the ground and then scoop it up and replant.

These are often called “pups”, wait to cut the pup off until roots have developed. You will want to plant it in a similar soil mix as the previous plant. If it is mostly bark, then stick with that. There are many species, so many different growing requirements, but the basic key to orchid growing is bright, indirect light; humidity; liquid fertilizer (20-20-20 Peters or a liquid “bloom fert.”) & watering. If you have a terrestrial type, the bark mixes will break down over time and the mix will stay too wet. At this time, you will want to re-pot the orchid. Sounds like you are having success at this point. Enjoy:)
