Hiking in Virginia?
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009I am planning a hiking trip in the south western part of Virinia. I want to hike in the mountains, however, I do not want an extremly difficult hike or a easy one. Can anyone suggest a trail that goes through the mountains and is maybe a loop, because i am only planning on a day hike. I would like to hike for at least 6 - 10 hours. I am having difficulty finding trails in the area that let you know if they go through mountains and how high you hike. Thanks for any help.

Best hiking shoes/boots/whatever for women?
Monday, September 28th, 2009I’m moving to a mountain area pretty soon and want to spend a lot of time hiking…I’ve never done more than a few hours though and always in sneakers. I want to invest in some good footwear for this but I’ve no idea what to get. I’ve heard trail running shoes are more comfortable than boots but that the latter have better ankle support. So any advice (especially from those with size 9 1/2 W feet) would be greatly appreciated!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009I know it’s a romantic notion, but I thought it kind of curious that I’ve always felt Italian inside, only to find out my, erm, point of embarkment on life’s journey was Livorno.
Could it be that we are merely “hitch hiking souls”?

Where to find womens designer hiking boots that are leather only and lightweight?
Sunday, August 16th, 2009Good, comfortable, sturdy hiking boots?
Thursday, August 13th, 2009I work as a wildlife biologist and go through hiking boots like crazy. I do a lot of walking on sandy soil, as well as hard packed dirt, and thrash through vegetation as well. It seems they do not make a sturdy, yet comfortable hiking boot for women. Any suggestions? Good brands, etc.? Preservation tips?
